February Lifestyle Favorites

I don't know where the month of February went, but when it came time to think about my February faves, I was at a complete loss.  What products did I use? What makeup did I wear?  Did I buy anything?  (Haha, that's funny...I must've shopped just a little bit.)  Did I even leave my house?  Apparently, I went to work because I got my normal paychecks...hmm.  What happened in February?  The Super Bowl happened.  Valentine's Day happened.  A great girls weekend for my friend's 30th birthday happened. The Olympics happened - ah, that's it.  Memory jogged...I spent A LOT of time watching the Olympics. So much time that I forgot everything!?!?  With that said, I didn't really deviate from my beauty routine, so this post will just be my February Lifestyle Favorites.
The Olympics – I spent so much time watching the Olympics, so this has got to be first on the February favorites list!  I have a weird love affair with Russia that started back when a Romanov exhibit passed through my town.  Who doesn’t want a Faberge egg?  Am I right?  After that, I tried to teach myself Russian, I bought a rather large Russian flag to hang on my wall, I got a subscription to Russian Life magazine and the embarrassing list goes on and on.  I can only really say goodbye and thank you in Russian, so teaching myself Russian didn’t work out so well.  Needless to say, I was really looking forward to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  I was not disappointed…I thought they were fantastic!  What a great display of Russian culture!  I’m ready to break out the nesting dolls and start practicing the Cyrillic alphabet again (not really, still obsessed with Paris and all things French).  One of my favorite parts of the Olympics was watching dream team commentators Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir.  Um, wow.  I couldn’t get enough of those two commentating the figure skating events – they definitely deserve to be bumped up to prime time commentators, I think they comments were intelligent, insightful and now I am an expert on body position on failed jumps.  But seriously folks…their outfits.  Their fashion sense.  Their chemistry.  I loved them!  You have to follow them on Instagram!  They even have a combined IG – “taraandjohnny”!  They are the best.  Lots more I could say about the Olympics, but overall, loved them and I let them consume quite a bit of my time in February.

Paris - This isn't so much a favorite as an obsession right now...the last 5 books I've downloaded have been about Paris or are set in Paris. I'm constantly plotting how I can get myself back there.  I'm dream about moving there.  I try to translate things into French in my head.  I proudly carry my Longchamp (can only get it in Paris) Eiffel Tower edition Le Pliage bag.  I longingly look at my Paris calendar while I’m at work.  I wash my face with my Laduree macaron washcloth.  My Prada glasses are out of rotation and Chanel glasses are back in!  I’ve been researching French food, cooking techniques and recipes.  All France, all the time!
Anchors – Flashback to a family vacation to Mystic, CT when I was a wee tyke.  We visited the historic Mystic Seaport.  Everywhere you turned, there were giant anchors just hanging out in the grass, on the sidewalk, pairs of anchors…big ones, little ones.  I was magnetically drawn to them…forget the giant whaling ship, no, I wanted to see more and more anchors.  Those anchors really stuck with me (and the amazing ice cream we got there…still have fond memories of that).  It must’ve been shortly after our Mystic trip that I discovered the old version of Moby Dick with Gregory Peck as Ahab.  I became slightly obsessed…I wanted to be on a whaling ship.  I wanted to live in a whaling town like New Bedford.  Have I made myself out to be sufficiently nerdy?  How about this nugget – I secretly wanted to marry first mate Starbuck (maybe that’s why I love Starbucks so much?) and always got annoyed when they showed his wife in the church scene…biotch.  Anyway, I’m still obsessed with anchors, not so much with wanting to be on whaling ship in the 1800’s, but lucky for me anchors and nautical themes are big for Spring!   And I went on a mini anchor haul – anchor print scarf, 2 anchor print shirts, anchor print pants to go along with my existing anchor print socks, shoes, and cardigan.  I can’t wait to wear everything (not together)…I’m gonna be looking super cool in all my new anchor print clothing!
I think I need to stop now before I divulge any more embarrassing information – from this post you’ve probably gathered that I want to be a 19th century whaler who speaks Russian, thinks in French  and wears only anchor print clothing.
