March Favorites

March is over...looking back, it went by pretty quickly, but yet in the midst of it, the days just draaaaaaagged by.  I've been so crazy stressed with some things going on in my life that I was happy to see March end.  Now it's April and Spring is here and I'm hoping to start feeling like myself again.  And it always helps getting a Sephora VIB 15% "Spring's Hottest Ticket" coupon in the mail!  But here they are...the things I loved in March!

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash – I am loving using this face wash, talk about squeaky clean.  The “frothy” foaming action sucks dirt and oil out of your pores like a Dyson, and I think it does a great job of removing makeup.  My face feels so fresh and smooth after using it and my pores appear smaller.  I’ve also noticed that my “that time of the month” breakouts are less frequent and do not last long if something unsightly does pop up.  Nothing has helped and I thought I was stuck with them since they are hormonal.  This isn’t a cheap face wash, let’s be honest, but I do not mind shelling out $21 for the results, and one bottle lasts a really long time – I’ve been using my full size one for over a month, and I've barely made a dent.  You only use a pea sized amount, but I continue to be impressed each time I wash my face how such a small dollop can create so much foam, especially when paired with a Clarisonic, some of the foam usually ends up in my nose, but it’s worth it for the results!  I usually love trying out new skincare products, but I think I’ll be sticking with this one for a long time to come.  Try it out - Origins!

MAC Patina Eyeshadow  $15 – I’ve been using my MAC palette exclusively this month!  Based on a recommendation, I purchased the Patina shadow as an all-over-the-lid shade.  MAC describes this a “taupe brown with golden pearl.”  I’ve watched enough Antiques Roadshow in my time to know that leaving the patina on an antique means big bucks and high auction values, and having all those episodes under my belt, I feel confident that I have a good understanding of what a patina color should look like.  MAC hits the nail on the head with this shade.  It is the perfect blend of subtle, frosty shimmer – a sheen, really, a perfect neutral bronze.  Dusted across my lids, I feel like I have the appeal of an art deco sculpture or base to a highly sought after Tiffany lamp.  Am I taking this analogy too far?  Perhaps…but anything that refers to something historic or antiquey is right up my alley.  And the color is perfect neutral shade for Spring when matched with Nylon in the inner corner/browbone and Shale in the crease.  Get it here.

NYX Butter Glosses  $4.99 – I went a little crazy in Ulta not that long ago and picked up a few more NYX Butter Glosses to add to my purse pouch of nude/pink lip products.  I already have Tiramisu, but I added Crème Brulee, Éclair, and for those that know me, I inched towards the outer edge of my comfort zone by picking up Maple Blondie.  The former stick to my normal color palette of “your lips but better” but Maple Blondie has a (what I consider) bright coral pop to it.  And because I was feeling extra adventurous, I also picked up the NYX Butter Lipstick in Candy Buttons…the perfect counterpart to Maple Blondie.  I think I’ve worn them maybe twice in public…baby steps, people.  Anywho, I love the texture of the Butter Glosses – smooth, creamy, almost melty and they smell like dessert, but sadly, they do not taste like dessert.  And secretly, I was trying hard not to pick a gloss based on the name alone, but it just so happened that some of my favorite desserts were colors I really liked – what a great coincidence, don’t you think?  Perfect for work or layering with lipstick, I keep them close by all the time.  However, the only place I can find them near me is Ulta.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5 Zip $195 - Matt and I had a mini-getaway overnight at Revel in Atlantic City.  We ate, drank, gambled...well, I only gambled a little and escaped reality for a couple days.  Walking through the hotel, I was suddenly struck by a chorus of heavenly hosts, and there it was in front of me - a Rebecca Minkoff boutique.  The idea of gambling aka throwing my money away was seeming less amusing by the minute.  So, I decided my allotted gambling money would serve a higher purpose if I went shopping...no risking losing it all, and I'm not remotely lucky so I wasn't expecting to win big, so, the obvious choice was shopping!  I had my sights set on a Mini MAC, but sitting next to the minty Mini 5 Zip, it just didn't seem grab me. But the 5 Zip...now that was speaking to my rescued-from-slot-machine-abyss bulging wallet.  Granted, that ended my gambling fun but Matt did share a bit of his gambling money and helped me play a couple hands of blackjack, but I didn't mind observing because I was clutching my shopping bag with my new treasure!  This is the perfect sized bag for going out or whenever you don't want to drag along your big bag.  I'm obsessed with this color...perfect for Spring!  Minty Mini 5 Zip

I got quite a few things at the Body Shop 40% off sale that I've been experimenting with, but there a couple items that I think are destined for the April Favorites List.  I'm hoping to be posting a lot more in April.  I've got some ideas for posts and I'm excited to get working on them!  Happy April!
